AEKE Foundation (“AEKE Foundation”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your information when you visit aekefoundation.org, make a donation, subscribe to our updates, or otherwise interact with us. Please read it carefully.

1. Who we are

AEKE Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Abuja, Nigeria, dedicated to improving the welfare and dignity of underserved communities, including through our Sneakers for Sweepers (S4S) initiative. For the purpose of applicable data protection law, AEKE Foundation is the data controller of the personal information described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide to us. When you donate, subscribe to our newsletter, complete a contact or volunteer form, or otherwise contact us, we may collect your name, email address, telephone number, and any message or details you choose to share.

Donation and payment information. Donations are processed securely by our third-party payment provider, Paystack. Your card and banking details are entered directly with Paystack and are not stored on our servers. We receive confirmation of your donation (such as amount, reference, and the name and email you provide) for record-keeping and acknowledgement.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we automatically collect limited technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited and time spent, through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6).

3. How we use your information

  • To process and acknowledge your donations and send receipts;
  • To respond to your enquiries, applications and requests;
  • To send you updates, newsletters and information about our work where you have subscribed;
  • To operate, maintain, secure and improve our website;
  • To keep proper records and comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. Payment processing

Online donations are handled by Paystack, a licensed payment processor. Your payment is subject to Paystack’s own terms and privacy policy. We do not collect or store your full card details at any time.

5. Email and newsletters

If you subscribe, we use trusted email service providers to send you updates about our programmes and impact. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you may opt out at any time. Unsubscribing will not affect any donation already made.

6. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to make our website function properly, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings and through the cookie consent banner on our website. Disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.

7. How we share your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it only with:

  • Trusted service providers who help us operate (for example, payment processing, email delivery, and website hosting), who are permitted to use it only to provide those services;
  • Authorities or third parties where required by law, regulation, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

Some of these providers may process data outside Nigeria; where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains protected.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, including to meet donation record-keeping, accounting and legal requirements, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised.

9. Data security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

In line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable data protection laws, you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to request a copy of your information. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframe required by law.

11. Children’s privacy

Our website and services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

12. Third-party links

Our website may contain links to external sites (for example, our social media pages or payment provider). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.
